Gibson J-200 Prototype

Gibson Elvis Presley J-200 prototype of the later produced Limited Edition Signature Series.

This prototype clearly predates the production model by 5 or 6 years.

Pete Alenov pitched the idea to Gibson for an authentic reproduction of Elvis' original J-200.

They thought it was a great idea and in 1990 they made this guitar, the one and only prototype of the model.

For whatever reason, the idea was shelved until 1995 or 1996. Pete ended up with the prototype.

The prototype varies from the production model in a couple of cool ways. . .The intricate mother of pearl Elvis Presley neck inlay is larger in size than the production model.

The stars are bolder as well.

Also, the radical Elvis style pickguard is tortoise shell type material instead of black as on the production model.
